We saw Fernando in the rural town of Tamanique in El Salvador in February 2015. He had been an outdoor farm worker all his life and in the last couple years he completely lost his sight and could no longer work. He ended up being house bound because he had no light perception in either eye due to cataracts. When we saw Fernando he used a cane and required two helpers in order to get around. We were able to complete a comprehensive eye exam and get him prepared for cataract surgery. He successfully underwent cataract surgery in May 2015 on one eye. In Fernando’s follow up appointment, a man who had been completely blind gave thanks to God as his bandage came off and he was able to see the world again.
Our missions are hectic and we see a lot of patients in a short amount of time. We have a lot of success stories and all our patients are important to us, but there are just some cases and patients that just stay with you more than others. These are their stories.
